Philosophy of Education:
As an educator, I want to help students to be successful in their future. This means that I will teach beyond the standards and teach them real world skills. I want students to have a well rounded education that they can fall back on to solve real world problems. This does not mean that the standards will be neglected, only that I will supplement my lessons with extra information that they don't receive from their books.
Students need to know how to be successful in the real world. They need real world skills that go beyond the standards. I teach common sense knowledge that they can use later in life. This is all in conjunction with and related to their scholastic requirements.

My Style:
Having taught in many different situations, I firmly believe that a good teacher needs to adapt their style to what the student and surroundings require. I have taught the mechanics of a swing in batting cages, taught history while hiking along the Great Wall, taught in classrooms with nothing more than a chalkboard, and taught in classrooms while utilizing several forms of technology. I am comfortable teaching my students in many different environments using many different styles. Direct instruction has its uses, as does project-based learning, but what is important for an educator is to recognize what style is necessary to effectively convey the concept and use it to best serve their students.
